Overview

In this workshop, learning and development specialist Dan Hill explores how recent demographic, economic and societal shifts are reshaping learner behaviour and expectations in modern classrooms. As trainers increasingly work across blended, virtual and traditional environments, understanding these changes is essential for maintaining engagement, managing behaviour and creating psychologically safe learning spaces.

Drawing on insights from the highly regarded “Emotional Intelligence for Trainers and Teachers” program previously delivered to state government organisations, this session will expand on key emotional intelligence concepts and apply them directly to classroom management challenges. Participants will learn how to recognise shifts in learner presence, interpret behavioural cues in both physical and digital learning environments, and respond to potentially disruptive situations with emotional awareness and confidence.

By the end of the session, participants will have practical tools to read the room (or the Zoom), prepare for emerging learner dynamics, and manage challenging moments while maintaining engagement and learning outcomes.

Key topics covered within the webinar

  • Understanding what affects learner behaviour
  • Recognising and interpreting learner ‘presence
  • Applying emotional intelligence to classroom management
  • Strategies for preventing and managing disruptive situations
  • Practical techniques – engagement & psychological safety
